Classroom Rules!

Be in class on time...simple!
If you will be absent or late please send me a PRIVATE TEAMS MESSAGE!
Show respect to the teacher, fellow students and all items in the classroom!
Treat all the equipment with respect. Because if you break it, you might be buying it!
NO Cell phones...Please put them in your backpack or the lock boxes when entering the room!!) ANY phones out will be taken to the office for guardian pickup
Passes or a camera to be outside of the class WITH PERMISSION FIRST. Being outside of class without permission is the equivalent of a cut.
Backpacks stay in the classroom when out taking photos!
Food and drinks need to stay outside of class. Please put all items away COMPLETELY!
Absolutely NO gum or candy is allowed
Please stay in assigned seats. For safety of yourself, classmates and equipment!
Take note of your equipment each day. Tell me immediately if somthing is missing or broken etc. It is YOUR responsibility to let me know!!!
Roll is taken visually. Please be IN YOUR OWN seat.
Each day the end time might change depending on completion of assignment/projects!
You MUST have permission to use the bathroom or go for water breaks. Signing out in 5Star is required after getting permission to go! Remember there is a 6 minute timeline.

Congratuations! Hoover is the FIRST Fresno Unified High School to take school portraits for the ENTIRE school!

(Don't worry we'll show you how!)

TEAM PHOTOS

We will practice skills to take TEAM and Sports Photos!

MEDIA DAY PHOTOS

Media Day is a completely different element! We will learn step by step how to accomplish Media Day quality Photos!

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Self Portraits

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Learning to take self-portraits is important because it removes the pressure of pleasing clients or models. It gives you the ultimate freedom to experiment with lighting, camera settings, and angles at your own pace. Furthermore, stepping in front of the lens builds empathy and improves your ability to pose and direct future subjects.

HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: You will follow along with instruction and use what we have learned to create amazing photos!

Self Portraits are about more than your appearance, they show who you are and who you want to be!

The First Self Portrait

The First DOCUMENTED Self Portrait was taken by Robert Cornelius in 1839. Cornelius was an amatuer chemist and he took his photo by removing the lens cap and running back to where he was sitting, posing for a whole minute!

Rembrandt

Rembrandt (1606-1669) is given credit for being the first artist to "intensely study the self through art."

Self Portraits vs Selfies

Self portraits are carefully curated intended to express the artists inner world and viewed as art.

A selfie captures a specific moment without planning or intent to share as art, but rather to share via social media!

Her work focuses on issues of family, sexuality and intimacy in the Black Community.

The main goal of her work is to share the beauty of everyday experiences in black lives. Moreover, we especially appreciate the way she poses the human body in her images!

Capture an images that expresses SOMETHING ABOUT YOU!

Do you need a prop? What is something you do on the daily? What is your personality?

What you NEED to know!!!!

Make a new folder on your desktop...

Right click on your desktop

Select NEW>FOLDER

A new folder will appear

Name the folder...

If the name is not highlighted, right click the folder and select Rename

Name the folder: INTERNSHIP

OPEN YOUR NEW INTERNSHIP FOLDER!

Double click to open the folder on your desktop

Create a NEW FOLDER INSIDE YOUR INTERNSHIP FOLDER

(right click...New Folder)

Name the folder:

The Assignment...

For this assignment, you will need to take SELF portraits of you! The goal is to capture the essential elements of the image and draw the viewer's attention to those specific details.

Please note: You CANNOT use previous photos taken from Photography Class!

For this assignment, you will need to take 3 DIFFERENT images of YOURSELF in an environment or with a prop...

YOU choose what you are shooting! Do NOT just copy these!

Remember to make sure the image showcase is YOU!

A portrait is not a selfie! It's purposeful!!!

Do you need help posing? Remember to use an Anchor point! (hold or touch something...lean up against something)

To shoot...

Set your camera to M!

You are in control of ALL settings again!

M (Manual)

Set your ISO to 100!

You will adjust ISO to help darken the background later!

Click the Right Cross Key

Lets change the Drive mode to SELF TIMER

This means you click the button and you have time to get into place!!

Take the shot from DIFFERENT ANGLES!

Think of YOUR Point of view to get the perfect image!

Downloading your photos...

Open Photoshop

Click OPEN (on the left)

Navigate to Desktop> INTERNSHIP folder>

SELF PORTRAITS

Select ONE of the subjects/images you would like to work with.

Always select the best image based upon this criteria:

Does it work for your assignment?

Is it a good exposure?

Is it in focus?

Click OPEN

CHOOSE YOUR BEST IMAGES! If they don't meet the criteria, check out a camera and go shoot some more! DOES IT DEFINE YOUR SUBJECT???

SAVE (as) YOUR DOCUMENT!

Shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + S

(or File: SAVE AS)

Save as Type: PHOTOSHOP!

Then click Save to Cloud Documents

Save to CREATIVE CLOUD!

Click the Save to CREATIVE CLOUD button

Name the photo:

Photo 1:

"Your Initials Self Portrait1"

Photo 2:

"Your Initials Self Portrait2"

Photo 3:

"Your Initials Self Portrait3"

(You get the idea...when you are done you will be turning in 3 images!)

Click SAVE

If you have selected your best Environmental Portrait photo you can do the same process for other photos!

EXPORTING Your FILES

Please make sure it is a JPG file!

You will export 3 images:

CRITERIA:

3 Images of YOUR choice of 3 different ideas/places!
You will shoot 3 different Self portraits...in different places (come up with 3 DIFFERENT IDEAS!)
Each image MUST be edited appropriately in Photoshop
Each image MUST be named correctly
